Producer, CBC Radio

I'm a chase producer with Here and Now, the afternoon show in Toronto. I chase two or three stories a day, which means following leads, getting interviews, writing scripts and filling in the host. It's a hectic and busy day, with a number of tight deadlines that need to be met.

I started with CBC/Radio-Canada as a clerk with Human Resources. As a young broadcast journalist, just out of school, it was a way in. I'm in a wheelchair and was considered an equity hire when I got the job. But my manager at the time was confident that not only could I do the job, but that I would be able to move on to production. Fortunately she was right. I have since worked for a variety of shows in both Television and Radio.

I think radio creates a level of intimacy with the listener. The medium allows you to connect with your audience, engage them, make them think and use their imaginations. There is a beauty and a simplicity that I love about radio.
