The Government of Canada and the CRTC mandated that over-the-air television transmission switch from analogue to digital in many parts of Canada on August 31, 2011.
CBC/Radio-Canada decommissioned its over-the-air analogue television transmission network on July 31, 2012.
Television viewers who receive their TV signals using an indoor (ex. "rabbit ears") or outdoor antenna now require a digital converter box or a television (for older televisions) with a built-in digital tuner in order to continue watching over-the-air television. Alternatively, viewers can subscribe to cable, satellite or other service providers to watch TV. In addition, they can go to cbc.ca/player or ICI TOU.TV.
