Fredericton International Airport partners with CBC/Radio-Canada and Clear Channel Outdoor to offer news content to travellers

October 1, 2010, Ottawa

Passengers travelling through the Fredericton International Airport can now keep updated on recent events while waiting for their flight.

Fredericton will be the first airport in Atlantic Canada to partner with the CBC/Radio-Canada and Clear Channel Outdoor on the installation of television monitors throughout the terminal building that will broadcast news content from CBC News and RDI. The content will include National and International News, Business, Weather, Current Affairs and Entertainment news programming.

“This partnership is yet another example of how CBC/Radio-Canada works to make its programming available wherever, whenever and however people want to access it,” said Michel Tremblay, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Strategy and Business Partnerships. “We’re proud to be extending the reach of our content to Canadians in general and users of the Fredericton International Airport in particular.”

The HD displays will broadcast content in a continuous loop updated hourly. Six displays will bring breaking news and special events live to passengers in the pre- and post-security departure areas, in the restaurant, and in the arrival area. The network will be live to the public tomorrow.

CBC News Express Television Network is already available in 5 of the top 6 English markets in Canada. Fredericton joins Pearson, Vancouver, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton rounding out the regional airport coverage. “CBC News Express provides exposure to light television viewers with high household incomes, complimentary to traditional network television,” says John Jory, President of Clear Channel Outdoor Canada.

“We are pleased to be the first airport in Atlantic Canada to offer this service to our passengers so they can keep up to date on the latest news while they are traveling”, said David Innes, President & CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority Inc. “This is a great partnership for our airport.”
