Basic life insurance for the first 4 months if paid by CBC/Radio-Canada prior to the start of absence.

If the absence follows the 52 weeks of Parental Leave, may only continue those benefits that were active at the end of the Parental Leave. Discontinued benefits may not be restarted or reactivated.

All benefits (CBC/Radio-Canada or employee-paid) may be continued at the employee's expense for up to one year. Pre-payment with post-dated cheques is required.

Compassionate Care Leave

CBC/Radio-Canada will continue to pay the premiums for hospital/medical provincial coverage in the provinces where premiums apply.

Employee-paid benefits may be continued at the employee's expense.

Employee entitled to unpaid leave for up to 8 weeks. Prior to the leave, must choose which benefits plans will be maintained throughout the period of leave. Pre-payment with post-dated cheques is required.

Deferred Salary Leave

All CBC/Radio-Canada or employee-paid benefits may be continued at the employee's expense. Pre-payment with post-dated cheques is required.

For the period of leave, may elect to:

(1) Maintain all benefits except Dental; or
(2) Maintain all benefits including Dental; or
(3) Opt out of all benefits.

For SCRC, must maintain all benefits during the period of leave and bears the sole responsibility of the cost of both employer and employee premiums. Pre-payment with post-dated cheques is required.

Parental Leave

II. CBC PENSION PLAN PARTICIPATION FOR MEMBERS *

No pensionable service is credited and no contributions are paid by the employee, except in the following circumstances:

(1) Where the President/CEO deems the absence to be in the public interest:

  • Employee pays both employer and employee shares of contributions.

(2) The absence is for union activities:

  • Employee pays his/her share of contributions and CBC/Radio-Canada will continue to contribute its share.

(3) The absence is a secondment to another organization:

  • Employee pays both employer and employee shares of contributions.

Absence
Without Pay

Counts as pensionable service for this extended period up to the maximum combined period of 52 weeks provided:
(1) Employee pays both employer and employee shares of contributions; and
(2) A commitment to pay is made prior to beginning Child Care Leave; and
(3) Payments are made during the period of Absence Without Pay; and
(4) Employee returns to work immediately following the period of Absence Without Pay.

(If employee chooses not to pay, this service is not available for buyback at a later date.) Pre-payment with post-dated cheques is required.

* If an employee completes the eligibility criteria during the leave period (i.e., the 2-year waiting period), membership could start during the leave. Membership for a non-permanent eligible employee is optional and subject to eligibility criteria.
